Maureen Amakabane

Maureen Amakabane is the Founder of Nyayo Moms Sokos Limited, a platform that leverages technology to provide a digital marketplace, access to information, and training for women-led MSMEs. She’s also founded Usafi Sanitation Ltd., a local startup that provides sustainable toilet sanitation in schools, and a co-founder of Beyond Colors. Over the years Beyond Colors has shifted its focus in offering consulting services for women-led startups. We help in designing effective systems and processes that set a foundation for sustainability and profits; we also work with feminist organizations to train young women in universities and underserved communities in leadership and entrepreneurship. As a CSR, Beyond Colors runs a girls’ mentorship program “Girl Confidence” which aims to empower young girls between the ages of 12 – 24, our focus is on menstrual hygiene and boosting personal confidence. She’s passionate about storytelling and believes each individual should live their true identity by owning their story. She’s a storyteller instructor with The Moth which is a leading storytelling organization. She’s committed to driving conversations and policies that focus on women socio-economic empowerment, she believes that the digital space has presented an opportunity to catalyze these conversations, and most importantly, has given women an opportunity to set up businesses and grow them, every woman in Africa must be digitized.
