-by Universal Signs Ltd. was founded in 1998 by Maurine Kariuki’s father. Initially, her mother was part of the business, mostly handling the finance department. In 2014, Maurine resigned from her HR position at one of the leading banks in Kenya, to join the family business on a full-time basis, handling Business Development and Operations.
“While on campus, I would assist Dad with responding to emails, typesetting, scheduling client appointments, etc. In the process, I got to develop an interest in the business and lots of experience in running it, “says Maurine.
Universal Signs Ltd. deals with the fabrication, installation & maintenance of indoor & outdoor signage & branding. Transitioning from employment to running a family business has been a challenge for Maurine but she finds the work enjoyable and has no regrets whatsoever. She says, “Being part of Sheworks Africa 2022 is amazing! The program is quite organized and uses a very practical approach; just what I needed for the family business that I manage.”
