This week we get to hear from Yetunde Adegboye, Founder of Ybom Integrated Resources Limited. In 2005, Yetunde registered the name Ybom, since she had always known that she’ll run a business, right from the time she cleared school. She thereafter got a job for 4 years to raise capital, and in 2009, her business was finally up and running. In 2017, Yetunde went a step further by making Ybom a Limited Liability Company, with her children as shareholders.
Initially, Yetunde was in the fashion and apparel industry; selling clothes, but within a short time, she decided to shift to the food industry as a yogurt distributor. This began in Ibadan and spread to other cities until she captured the entire South West. Yetunde sought to apply for grants to be able to service her markets but always got feedback that being a distributor meant that she did not own the product and the manufacturers could withdraw it from the market at any time.
As much as this was discouraging, it proved to be a good problem since Yetunde was challenged to begin manufacturing her product. Furthermore, in 2015, she went through a life-changing experience when having her second child and this made her start researching different types of healthy foods.
Ybom Integrated Resources Ltd. now creates amazing food experiences for adults who are living with diabetes. If that’s not enough, the company goes further and converts production waste into farm feeds on their circular economy farm.
“The lessons in this course are eye-opening, allowing me to see things in a different perspective. For example, Victoria Chitwa of Lymas Health Bar has given me a great idea of selling my product as a complete program package instead of piece by piece,” says Yetunde. She admits that she’s a little bit new to this kind of training but enjoying the company of the ladies in the cohort.
Some of Ybom’s healthy delicacies include plantain flour, ofada rice (unpolished rice), peeled beans (for baking cakes), peanut cookies, fresh fruit juices and much more.
